Did you know your sleeping position matters?

Your sleeping position can easily affect your health.

1.Belly sleeping position

Research shows that sleeping on your belly can cause you to keep turning and tossing. It strains your neck and your lower back which may cause pain in your neck and back.It is not advisable to sleep on your belly after a heavy meal since it affects digestion. To avoid the side effects of sleeping on your belly use a soft pillow to support your head or none.

2.Back sleeping position

This position is more preferred since it puts the head, neck and spine to rest. There are no major side effects of sleeping on your back. However,to avoid food or acid from coming up your digestive tract, support your head to ensure food in the stomach does not get to the oesophagus. It is also dangerous to people who have periods of breathlessness.

3.Side sleeping position

Sleeping on your side, adds more pressure on your hips and back which may cause pain in your back.To avoid this, put a pillow between your legs for comfort.Humorously,it can also cause one to have wrinkles since half the face is pushed against a pillow.

Choose your sleeping positions wisely.

Junk Hub

Theophilus Macharia

Junk, its shocking that something of little meaning, poor quality or trash is the outward meaning of this word, when we add foods to the former, the meaning becomes foods with less nutrition value and contains lots of fat, sugar, salt and calories with less protein, vitamins or minerals. Our bodies operate with the principle of Garbage In Garbage Out.Fast foods are prepared and served quickly and our modern generation is unable to pull out because they taste good are convenient and inexpensive. When the deal is too good, think and rethink. What we get at our favorite restaurants, drive inns take outs and counter service is oftem made with cheaper ingredients like highfat meat, refined grains, added sugar, fats and salt.I know it is hard to resist the temptation hile walking downtown and you get hit by the aroma of fried chicken and even before you move a step further another pedestrian passes by with a value box labelled KFC garnished with creamy salads and sauce. The next sunny day along the corridors of the lecture halls everyone you meet is enjoying a cold bottle of ice cubed coca cola quenching their thirst. It is on such days we give in to the temptation and join the Junk club which later turns out to be a hub of destruction.Am i trying to say fast foods are bad?Well,No,there are foods we should try not to have on a regular basis and these is definitely junk.Eating too much over a long period of time can lead to unwanted weight gain, heart diseases and high blood pressure.Them that hardly go for a day without taking soda, you are just adding calories that feed your body with harmful sugar that turns into poison in the longrun.Lastly, avoid the salt shaker.Salt is a major contributor to high blood pressure and heart diseases and gast fast foods tend to be loaded with it already. When its Junk Oc’lock remember Moderation is Important.

Sleep

Relax.Take a nap.Take care of your body.

Sleep is as important as a balanced diet to our bodies. It is essential for a in keeping our health in check. We are usually asleep a third of our lifetime since adults are advised to sleep not less than 7hrs a day.

After a very long and tiresome day at work,I get home tired and longing for sleep. In these moments,I long for the days in nursery school where we had sleeping time after lunch.I remember how our teachers had to force us to sleep and how much we cried when we didn’t want to.I secretly wish someone would force me to sleep at this age but the bills to pay cannot let me.Some weeks ago,I developed back aches and my blood pressure rose rapidly. My doctor advised me to ensure I had enough rest.True to his words, after changing my sleep patterns and resting enough I recovered.

Rest is important to avoid increased blood pressure and diabetes type 2.Check your sleeping patterns to keep your health in check.Your health is important.

Toxic hangover

Mourrine Wambugu

After a wild night with your squad, waking up with a sharp hangover is no big deal.Usually, we simply treat with affordable painkillers and go back to the booze! However, the party stops when diagnosed with alcohol poisoning.

Our bodies absorb alcohol faster than food. Therefore, when you consume a high amount of alcohol, especially over a short period, your alcohol blood levels become high thus toxic.

Binge drinking and consuming illegal liquors are the main causes of this serious condition.

Signs and symptoms

  • Confusion
  • Vomiting
  • Shallow,abnormal breathing
  • Pale skin
  • Body temperature drops,a condition called hypothermia
  • Shivering
  • Unconsciousness
  • Where serious, a heart attack or a comma.

Treatment

This requires urgent medical attention. As first aid,try keeping the person awake,in a sitting position or lying by the side, NOT on their back.Give him/her only water and DO NOT make them walk.

In hospital, tubes are inserted to help with breathing and excretion.A drip is injected to manage glucose levels and ensure hydration. The stomach is pumped to flush the fluids through another tube inserted down the mouth. Recovering has side effects like nausea, headaches and stomach cramps.

Stay hydrated ,consume solid food before alcohol and avoid binge drinking.Have some pity on your liver!

Toxic Pleasure

Timothy Sikuku

Pleasure is quite desirable and no one would mind having some. However, it is important to recognize the difference between that which is pleasure and that which is demon eating up your body.

Drugs are said to alter the normal functioning of the body. Can it be that drugs tend make your body engage in foreign affairs it is not designed to participate in, for this reason therefore, it will in most cases mulfunction and tend lose the grip.

Drugs bring pleasure, but then if taken in excess it tends intoxicate your body. The body then develops mechanisms necessary to fight the chemicals that are introduced to it and in the process there are victims ,that is; your cells, tissues, becomes an impediment to the functioning of your body systems and certainly your body. Taking care of your body is such an important necessity for longer life and it also enables you to function properly thus deepening your impact in the various spheres of life you are engaged in.

BURGER

Nutrition!!Boom the moment we hear of this word what hits our minds is food, food food and guess what we are all right. But here is the controversy,do you know there is good nutrition and bad nutrition?Well stick around as we unravel the mystery behind how different nutrition formats or styles may impact your life either positively or Negatively.

What and how we eat or even what we eat is dependent on a number of factors which i may say are either genetical, behavioural or environmental. If say we consider environmental factors, some of us will prefer to take fast foods or junk because certain foods cannot grow in their geographical area therefore the only way to feed themselves is to feed on a substitute of the same product in a processed manner.A good example is taking dried fruits like mangoes that have been imported say to America from Kenya Ukambani.Genetical factors come in when an individual inherits eating habits from their parent or a specific love for certain foods, that is brought about by the cravings had by the mother during pregnancy. For example you will find a child has a very high liking of smokies and when trying to understand why,you realise the mother had this crazy craving of smokies during pregnancy. However, food is for the stomach and stomach for the food.Take responsibility over whatever goes into your mouth.Let not what you take in be as sweet as honey but the aftermath as bitter as gal.Remember you only live once!!

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
