Timothy Sikuku

Welcome to this interview, I’m joined a former drug addict who is about to tell us of his experience through drugs and even after he recovered from drug addiction. I hope that this will be of help to you.

Interviewer: Hello, how are you?

Richard: I’m fine. Thank you

Interviewer: would you kindly tell me your our name and which part of the country you come from?

Richard: My name is Richard, I’m from Githurai in Kiambu county.

Interviewer: kindly tell us about you and drugs?

Richard: I was a drug addict for ten years before I become n arm robber due to drug connections which led being jailed where i was taken through rehabilitation to overcome my addiction tendencies.

Interviewer: How was the experience with drugs before you got jailed.

Richard: It was really tough. I was a nuisance to my family members. It affected my education, career and most importantly my health. I lost almost everything I had and that is why at that particular time robbery was the only option.

I developed fatal diseases like cirrhosis that made me loose hope for life, i just wanted to die.

Interviewer: which types of drugs were you addicted to specifically?

Richard: I was very adventurous, I took almost everything. But mostly alcohol and cigarette smoking was on the top of the list.

Interviewer: How was the rehabilitation experience for you?

Richard: It was tough, especially considering the fact I had given myself to death,  I hated everyone that proved to be of help to me. It was not to quit the drugs but at least it helped.

Interviewer: Five years later free from real and perpetual imprisonment, how does feel?

Richard: I’m really grateful to God, for one I have my family back, my friends and moat importantly myself. At least i can work towards my visions. As of now I can make rational decisions.

Interviewer: What do you have to tell the guys out there who are leaving life in addiction?

Richard: It is high time you notice the silent death that is slowly catching up with you. You mean much more ti the world to let it miss out on your potential by chocking it is these chemicals. You deserve a better life than you have right now and I’d suggest you look for help as soon as possible

Interviewer: Thank you for joining us for this interview. God bless

Richard: any time and amen!

Effects and Types of Drugs

Timothy Sikuku

Drugs can be categorized based upon their effects on users. There are essentially seven different drug types, each with its own set of characteristics, effects and dangers. Categories include stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens, dissociatives, opioids, inhalants and cannabis.

Stimulants imoact the body’s central nervous system making the user feel as if they are speeding up. They ancreasevthe user’s level of alertness, heart beat and increase glucose levels.
Depressants affect the CNS by making things seem as if they are slowing down.
Hallucinations disrupt communication within the brain. Users report rapidly shifting emotions and perception of things that are not really there.
Dissociates distorts the user’s perception of reality. Users gain a false sense of invincibility.
Opiods are powerful painkillers that produce a sense of euphoria in users.

Don’t risk it!

Mourrine Wambugu

Nowadays, engaging in premarital sex is no longer a big deal. The real issue is whether you stay safe and protected as you get frisky in the sheets! Here are pros and cons of the commonly used contraceptions:

1.Condoms:It protects one from contracting both Sexually Transmitted Infections(STIs) pregnancy. It’s hormone free and can be used on demand.Cons:It could tear or come of during sex if not used properly.

2.Oral contraceptive pill:It should be taken daily without missing any failure to which it becomes less effective. It’s highly effective and reduces appearance of acne and having painful periods.Cons:It doesn’t protect one from STIs and isn’t suitable for women affected by hormones.

3.Intrauterine device(IUD):It can be an effective emergency contraception if fitted 5dys after having unprotected sex.Can stay for upto 10years long and it’s reversible. Cons:could lead to irregular bleeding and spotting. It requires the professional to insert and remove the device.

4.Contraceptive implant: it doesn’t interrupt sex and it’s a long-lasting reversible method. Stays for upto 3yrs.Cons:Intense bleeding, only used with the help of a medical doctor.

5.Vaginal ring and contraceptive injection:lasts upto 3months and doesn’t interrupt sex.Cons:Doesn’t protect against STIs and requires keeping track of number of months used.Irregular bleeding and disrupts normal periods.

Seek the services of gynecologist or a trained sex health officer to find which method works best for you.Use a method that does more good than harm to your body.

Value your sleep

Valuing your sleep is valuing your health.

We have often heard of people who have problems sleeping at night. They wake up several times in the middle of the night, toss almost all night and spend the day feeling sleepy.Lack of enough sleep is associated with poor immune system hence people who don’t get enough sleep are most likely to get sick.

Finding a comfortable bed is very important.A bed that is weak and not stable can affect the way we sleep. To have quality and lengthy sleep and rest,we need to make sure our beds are stable.Mattresses are important as well. Most are the times people have woken up with pain in their backs and hip area due to a mattress that is too thin in volume. To avoid this, replace your mattress once the volume reduces too much.Pillows are essential in supporting our upper back and our necks. There ensure proper alignment of the spine area which is naturally curved. Some companies have come up with pillows that play tunes that only you can hear.Soothing tunes are helpful since they relax our minds and lead us to sleep.

If you mind your health, buying comfortable pillows, mattresses, beds and blankets is the best way to go.

Divide your plate.

Theophilus Macharia

Sounds interesting dividing your plate?Imagine a plate where all the 7 or at least 3 of the most important elements that your body needs are represented. This is what more often than not we call a balanced diet which includes Vegetables, Carbohydrates, proteins, fat, fibre ,vitamins, minerals and water.Balanced diet is important because your body organs and  tissues need proper nutrition to work effectively.Good nutrition prevents the body from diseases  and infections, fatigue, poor performance and fatigue. However, balanced diet and meal planning  are two different things.Meal planning involves keeping  a record of the number of meals to take for a week or a day.Having a balanced diet does not mean going out there and getting expensive foods and drinks for you to feel the vibe of balancing your diet.Something as simple as having tea and a piece of banana is a balanced diet.Always divide your plate in portions and ensure vegetables fill close  to half of your plate. It is also key to calculate your calories to attain a balances level.Vegetables are essential sources of vitamins and minerals.Dark leafy greens are the best.Proteins like beans and meat are essential for proper muscle and brain development.Choose low lean fat meats like Chicken, fish, and certain pork cuts which are the best.Vitamins are a major source of replenishment to our body cells. They may include fruits or natural juices from these fruits.Grains too serve as a high source of nutrition.Oils too are very key in our diet are to be used sparingly and opt for low fat and low sugar version of products that contain oil like salad dressing and mayonnaise. Here is a disclaimer, avoid supplements, they have proven to be harmful to the human body.Eat less salt too not more than 6 grams a day.lastly,do not forget a glass or two of water to seal the deal.Did you know that apples serve to wake you up better in the morning than coffee??

Well Think about It.To eat a balanced diet is to live a healthy life.

Flat tummy,abs or nothing.

we are living in an era where ladies are stepping up on their fitness game. They are more concious on the importance of keeping fit as well as creating a beautiful physique to fit in that gorgeous dinner date gown,to fix a summer body,or to just feel good in their toned skin.

It is important to know that ladies are keen about changes in their bodies, whether they are gaining or loosing weight especially on their tummies. Most women try diffrent ways to keep their bellies small like taking lemon water in th morning, using body shapers but these methods don’t really work unless you are actually working out and you are actively into fitness.

There is an emerging wave of fitness enthusiastic females who are stepping up for even greater fitness goals and even competing and beating their male counterparts in getting well toned abs. That is why the video comes in handy in illustrating some of the abs workouts if you wanna join the alpha females. The exercise is called Russian twist. It is good for toning upper abdomen muscles and making your abs visible with time depending on how consistent you are with your abs workouts.

Silent Death

Timothy Sikuku

https://www.surveymonkey.com/results/SM-23F2H7JS7/

An opportunity opportunity to get to reason with you once again, this time with some analyses conducted on whether or not you are addicted to any form of drug. A number of people responded to the survey question and the findings are quite encouraging.

At least not many people (among those who responded to it), are addicted to drugs. Addiction has been taken lightly in the recent past it’s paramount to take keen notice that it is actually a chronic disease that may require medication to overcome. From the results, there are cases of partial addiction, before you notice the demon will grow and you will be at a place where you are unable to come out of it.

Addiction is a complex disease, often chronic in nature, which affects the functioning of the brain and body. It also causes serious damage to families, relationships, schools, workplaces and neighborhoods. The most common symptoms of addiction are severe loss of control, continued use despite serious consequences, preoccupation with using, failed attempts to quit, tolerance and withdrawal. Addiction can be effectively prevented, treated and managed by healthcare professionals in combination with family or peer support.

It has been quite a while and i am back with some interesting facts regarding the survey conducted and the results highlighted above. Now did you know that a human can go without food for about three weeks but would typically only last three to four days, yes days without water.Water,it all sounds common but this here is a lifesaver.60% of the human adult body is water with the brain and heart taking 73%of the total body water volume, lungs 83%, skin 64% and muscles and kidneys 79% bones 31%.From the research the largest percentage is people who take 2-5 glasses a day.should i say you all are safe? The least percentage being those who said they don’t drink water, this makes me freak out because maybe i think you might be a step away from the grave. Those that make sure they take exactly 8 glasses per day as is stated to be the minimum amount one should take,it is a thumbs up for you.water serves a number of million functions to keep us going just to mention a few like being the building material of every cell, flushing wastes, forms saliva, lubricates the joints and lubricating the body temperature among many others. In line with my survey i discovered that babies have more water as compared to adults, women have less water than men and people with more fatty tissues have less water than people with less fatty tissues.Taking water on a daily basis is not one of the cool things to do,one of the main reasons being it is tasteless and this has made us come up with interesting ways to make water taste better especially by adding additives like juice, fruit flavors and playing around with ice,but this shouldn’t be the case.To enjoy the maximum benefits of water it should be taken, fresh and pure should i say when cold?well this depends on the state and preference of your body. Some of the best times to take water include:When you first get up in the morning, before a meal, when you are hungry, when you are exposed to germs, drink more water when you are ill, drink water after and before a workout.Water is life and we only live once.YOLO!.So how about a cheer or a toss to our glasses of water?

Who is counting?

Brenda Kananu

According to the survey monkey results, there were 78 responses on the fitness survey question that intended to understand trends in how people exercise in a month.

20.51% out of the possible 100% don’t involve themselves in any form of exercising activity.Sad right?it may be due to a number of reasons like they may not understand the importance of working out,or they don’t care about the fitness of their bodies or they simply don’t have time to exercise.

7.69% which is formed by 6 out of 78 responses. They are people who exercise daily. This include a small group of people who are most concerned with their physical outlook and are concious about the benefits of working out or atleast jogging .

30.77% of people exercise 3-5days each week in a month.according to the survey which is quite good .It shows people are trying to raise their living standards by keeping fit and avoiding health conditions that would otherwise raise their hospital bills like obesity or heart diseases brought about by being overweight or unfit.

41.03% of responses were in the i don’t keep count category. These are people who exercise on days their minds click they need to work out in a month. They don’t have a specific schedule for workout but they try and exercise when they don’t have a lot of work on their plate. To them exercise is not a mentally noted priority but they try and exercise.so what category do you fall into?
